From Facebook by Anthony on reasons why not to vote for Joe Baca in the June Primary, hopefully this campaign will help Joe Baca realize his errors which he is slowly correcting in time for November. Free thinking individuals in the 35th Congressional District (Pomona to Fontana) should make a protest vote for Anthony Vieyra.

8 Reasons Anthony Vieyra is better than Joe Baca
1) Joe Baca was listed as one of the 10 Worst Member of Congress, one of the very worst.
From the 2008 Election – Esquire article, – When he was chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Joe Baca steered funds to the campaigns of his two sons. When Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez called him on it, he did the mature thing and called her a “wh-re?”
Wow, how desperate are the Democrats to endorse someone like him?
Anthony will never be one of the 10 worst, and it doesn’t matter if the Democrats endorse me or not.
2) Joe Baca can’t even get along with Democratic party members, how can he get along with others in Congress? He’s worse than Rush Limbaugh, what was that word he called Loretta Sanchez? I wonder what he calls Gloria Negrete Mcleod? , and what is the real reason he won’t support fellow Democrat Josie Gonzales?
Being a Green democrat, Anthony gets along with everybody! Can’t we all get along?
3) Joe Baca is like an aging baseball player who can’t get on base. Joe Baca never got a bill passed in 2010-2011.
His rankings: 0 Bills Made Into Law (Ranks 18 of 440), 31 Sponsored Bills (Ranks 24 of 440) No wonder San Bernardino is passing him off to another district. Joe Baca is the most expensive congressman with the least amount of results.
The 35th district needs to pass on this overpaid, lame duck Congressman.
4) In 2011, Rep. Baca became a co-sponsor of Bill H.R.3261 otherwise known as the Stop_Online_Piracy_Act. This bill would have censored the internet and give control to the government; allowing them to shut down sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Wikipedia, Gmail, and allows users to be sued.
Thanks Joe Baca, I guess it is good none of your bills made it into law.
5) Joe Baca supports the ill fated Keystone XL Pipeline. On Oct. 19, 2011, a letter was sent to President Obama asking him to support the Keystone XL Pipeline Project. Twenty-one Democrats also signed on to the letter requesting that the President grant a Presidential Permit to move forward with construction, including yours truly – Congressman Joe Baca.
With Congressmen like Joe Baca, who needs enemies.
Anthony will not support a pipeline that uses foreign labor and materials. If it’s going to be used on American soil, it’s going to be built by Americans !
6) Joe Baca represented San Bernardino in having the highest Foreclosure and Unemployment rates in the nation. Now he wants to represent us? No wonder he’s not running in his own district. I’m sure they wouldn’t vote for him again.
Pomona, Ontario, Chino, Montclair, Fontana, Bloomington and Rialto, if you want a Congressman who will support you by bringing back jobs and stopping foreclosures, Anthony is your choice!
7) Joe Baca’s true supporters; Bank of America, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae – can you say Bailout. Show Joe the money ! Joe Baca leads this race with the most funding, he has already spent about $390,000 compared to my $3,000. I would like to see where that money went !
Somebody is a big spender, and it won’t be Anthony. If you want to send a big spending Congressman to Washington then vote for Joe, but remember you have to pay him and his contributors the end.
I think Joe Baca is over budget.
Speaking of big spending, House spending data prepared for USA Today by the Sunlight Foundation shows that 45 House members spent more than 95 percent of their 2011 budgets as of Dec. 31, exceeding what they can spend this year. Of those, 38 were Democrats.
Hey Joe Baca, tell us if you are over budget and how much you spent for staff, wouldn’t be over a Million dollars would it?
Anthony will not overspend your money and do more work himself. If we the people have to cut back, so should government!
When voting, remember your ABC’s – Anthony’s the Better Candidate!

T-Mobile closed the loophole where people were able to tether their phones to use the data on their tablets or laptops for free with the newest version of the Android operating system. Unless you want to be technologically savvy and root your phone to tether without any charges you are stuck to the walled garden of the provider.

I basically only use around 1gb of traffic, It might benefit me where I could save ten bucks a month on my data charges if I only end up being a casual user of the data services on my phone. If tethering is not doable on my phone, I would rather just pay less.

I am honestly confused where they are saying you need to pay for a 14.99 tethering plan, but they said they were throwing in tethering if you pay 5 bucks more in the 30.00 5gb plan. What is the right story?

I am going to try to be a data hog on my phone this month and find out if I really was throwing away $120 all for nothing.

Perhaps I will need to write a feature to encourage people to use up as much data as they paid for so they can get their value. As long as customers are not going hog wild on their data who cares what they do with the data unless they are downloading pirated software.

For voters who live in San Bernardino County’s 4th district in the Republican Party committee, I have my recommendations. Only 4 of the 6 get chosen. Since none of them are really Libertarians or lovers of the ideas of Ron Paul, I was tempted to vote for the least toxic candidates, but I realized that ALL OF THEM stink in various degrees. VOTE FOR NO ONE!

I was tempted to vote for Nan Rider because she’s not as fundamentalist as most of the candidates, but she shares Paul Chabot’s values on marijuana. And also for this.

I was tempted to vote for Roman Nava, but if his boss can not understand why we want to cut the salaries of the supervisors and their staffs then why bother.

If you live in Chino, Chino Hills, South West Fontana, Montclair, Ontario and Upland south of Foothill Blvd and do not like the state of the county party in particular in having Assembly District 41 and 52 not leaning Republican get involved so we can have a broad selection of perspectives in the organization.

Timm Herdt laments the fact that write in candidate rules are very lax in California due to the advent of Proposition 14. Many candidates and political parties are realizing that it is futile to spend the money and time to get on the ballot. 1700 bucks to get on the ballot for Congressional District 35 in Pomona was too much for all sectors of the Republican Party to entertain any candidate to jump in the game in an election where they would not likely secure a spot in November.

Personally I have written about this issue. I have wrote about being tempted to file for office this year as a write in candidate, and I also listed districts in California where Republicans failed to file or no opponent dared to challenge a Democratic Party candidate in one of my prior posts where I wanted the Ron Paul faction to take over the California Republican Party so we can take those ex-officio positions.

The fear of crazies running for office.

Timm thinks its dangerous that any person can get on the ballot with only a few dozen votes or even one or two when candidates run unopposed in June. There can be a solution to this, after the filing deadline any of the ballot qualified parties can nominate a candidate to participate in the top two primary as long as no candidate from their party filed and they would be officially on the ballot. However, I just feel its just as dangerous to keep the political process closed. I certainly do not want unopposed elections just as how Gloria Negrette Mcleod ran unopposed in 2006 for State Senate. The party nomination process after the ballot filing period would be the best solution to prevent unopposed candidates so we can prevent the fear of a “joke candidate” getting on the ballot in November such as a Steve Rocco, someone who got elected blindly in Orange County who believed in conspiracy theories and got caught stealing ketchup from a college cafeteria.

I do not think we should have a minimum vote requirement to get on the ballot for November. It is just as bad as the 1% requirement to file file for office. It should be up to the media and the public to find out about these individuals so we can make informed choices. If a member of the community does not like the choices on the ballot, people should be free to run as a write in.

Updated 5/18/2012

I used to think Democratic Party legislators were the ones guilty of wasting taxpayer money, money so hard to come by in this state.

First, let’s look Bridgepoint Education with their 1,250 dollar contribution to Bob Huff. Who is Bridgepoint Education? Bridgepoint Education is a for-profit education company that operates online and on-campus based schools in the San Diego region and they are the fifth highest private employer in San Diego. Fine, it’s great that there are expanded education opportunities for people looking to expand their skills. However, there’s one major problem with Bridgepoint Education they get federal and state grants and the taxpayers are getting little in return with the company. Their profits are going up, but students are not completing their programs or even getting a decent job from their education.

The story began when a former executive for the for-profit University of Phoenix decided to look for a private liberal arts college for sale. They found and bought one in Iowa which was already accredited, making it easier to quickly get students. Then, regulations by the Department of Education in 2006 allowed schools with more than 50 percent of their students online to be eligible for federal assistance, leading to the growth of their company.

Bridgepoint has been more concerned with padding their bottom line by selling their “services,” rather than providing a product to their “customers.” 84 percent of their students dropped out of their education program in 2010 according to the US Senate Education Health Labor and Pensions committee. Meanwhile Bridgepoint has milked the taxpayers for almost $600 million in federal subsidies annually to help bring the school a tidy profit. Aside from scrutiny from the Senate education committee, they are also being investigated by the Iowa Attorney General and the New York State Attorney General offices.

Bob Huff as a member of the Senate Education committee has some pull, but very limited influence in a state dominated by the Democratic Party. Bob Huff voted NO on SB 70, a trailer bill that has numerous issues including the regulation for-profit colleges in their acceptance of Cal-Grants. If more than 30% of students default on their loans from institutions that accept the state grants, that institution will have its aid rescinded.

Senator Huff is a proponent of “distance learning,” as demonstrated in his press release for his education summit in Fullerton back in April of this year. Perhaps Senator Huff got his contribution because he is a big proponent of distance learning, but voters would rather appreciate it when he gets money from donors who actually graduate their students to the workforce and don’t leave us with more unfunded mandates to clean up after. For disclosure, I am intending to enroll at Western Governor’s University which is ran quite better than Bridgepoint. I am not stating that distance learning is bad, but I was connecting a coloration that led to the reason he received his contribution.

Private schools that operate on a for-profit basis should not be operating without oversight. As long as they provide a good product and help lead students to success there should be nothing to complain about. When the private sector fails to perform then it’s justifiable to give them the boot for a given period of time until they comply with the regulations to accept public money. Education is the same as health care: services must be rendered to the highest standards. The problem with the for-profit sector in these two industries is they try to skimp on their services in the effort to attain the highest profit. If they want to behave in this manner then they should operate on private sector money alone.

The Public Sector may not be as perfect, but you do not get as much as a raw deal. At least with the community colleges you are not going to be in debt for around fifteen grand plus for one year of schooling with the schools that are under the microscope due to these new regulations.

Financial literacy and career counseling is vital, whether at a public-sector or private-sector institution of higher education when pondering the reality of paying back your education loans. With an over 1 trillion dollars in student loan debt in our nation we need to make sure our limited money is spent effectively to help provide opportunity to those who need it due to the likely budget cuts to compensate for our 16 billion in shortfalls in California. Oddly, the majority of Republicans in both chambers voted against reforming the for-profit education sector, but maybe if they realized that they are helping to encourage government waste and ruin they will recognize the error of their ways.

I originally was supporting Gary Johnson, but the media blackout decimated his campaign where he went to the Libertarian Party so I decided to support Ron Paul. I thought Ron Paul would be the right solution to improve the Republican Party. I was a bit uneasy supporting Ron Paul, but I got into the spirit of his campaign. I felt that Ron’s foreign policy views are refreshing compared to President Obama and Romney, I felt that we need to get our fiscal house back in order, I felt that Ron Paul would be the best choice to prevent the TSA and DEA from making the lives of Americans miserable.

However the voyage is about to end. Ron Paul was a victim of the media blackout just as with Gary Johnson. The media pretended that Ron Paul was non-existent, but he pulled rabbits out of a hat during various state conventions and party caucuses. Then the news media got puzzled and said “Romney is the one crowned”, perhaps the news media wants to get the weakest candidate against Obama nominated. Romney volunteers have behaved in such corrupt ways such as attempting to stuff ballots, threatening Ron Paul supporters and taking their ball and running away as in Oklahoma.

Sadly Ron or other higher ups in his campaign feel that his army is not behaving properly and violating the process. Ron’s supporters may be using Ron as symbol and they invested so much in him, but Ron stated that the journey is only beginning even if Ron might not make it further after the primaries. People ran to take over their state parties and even some of them are RNC committee members in states such as Maine and Nevada. The supporters of Ron Paul are running a spirited campaign based on ideas such as reducing spending, getting us out of Afghanistan, reforming the federal reserve. Romney may be closer to Obama’s views on many issues aside from social policy and that does not help much in uniting Ron’s supporters making it more like oil and vinegar.

Romney wants to solidify the base to make it where there will not be any partisan disasters as what happened with President George H.W Bush in the 1992 convention where Pat Buchanan ended up destroying the message of his campaign and it led to Clinton defeating him. However the maneuvers Romney have done during the state conventions in various states kills the dreams of unity.

Republican activists may say that, “If you do not vote for Romney, you will end up voting for Obama by default”, but honestly on various issues Paul supporters care about Romney is only Obama in white face. Romney is still going to keep us in Afghanistan until the sun does not shine, Romney is still going to sic the DEA on the dispensaries that offer the sick relief with marijuana, Romney is still going to promote the worst policies of President Obama with the drones invading American skies and indefinite detention of Americans. Perhaps leaving our ballots blank or voting for Gary Johnson may be the only rational idea.

For the Paul supporters, I applaud our efforts in trying to reform the Republican Party. The playground is not just for the establishment of the Republican Party, with various ideas we are able to make the Republican Party better for the future. In states such as California the Republican Revolution of 2010 avoided our borders, but if they want to get Independents and young people to breathe life in our party, we must adapt to the ideas of Ron Paul.

I am not expecting Romney to change his colors like Madonna reinvents herself, or even another round of doodling on the Etch-A-Sketch to sound more pragmatic or a friend of liberty. People have a horrible time trusting Mitt Romney now. Being a captain of industry is one thing, but we need someone that will not tear our party apart. Playing like a corporate raider is not going to leave a good taste in the mouths of Ron Paul supporters where it seems Romney is using the same playbook as President Obama where Obama leaked divorce trial information form his opponents.

Ron Paul is still running, he is still there for your support. However I am thinking about the endgame. If you want a good platform and perhaps a Warren Harding moment feel free to vote for him.

It seems California is now in a sixteen billion dollar budget deficit instead of an expected nine billion dollar deficit and Governor Brown wants to make sure cuts are not going to be as austere so he wants voters to pass the tax increase that Republicans will refuse to approve since they have the 2/3rds veto for tax increases.

Proposition 25 was expected to be the solution to get our legislators to pass budgets that do not have kabuki tricks that have such rosy projections where the amount of legislators to pass a budget bill was going to be lowered to 50 percent plus one, but legislators still passed budgets with accounting tricks because they did not want to sacrifice their paychecks when Democrats and political consultants used the threat of not passing a budget on time with legislators not being paid.

Democrats pass a budget in 2011, State Controller John Chiang refuses to pay the legislators because the budget violates another proposition passed by the voters in 2004, Proposition 58 “The California Balanced Budget Act”. The budget legislators passed in 2011 did not balance revenues and expenditures and state legislators ended up suing the State Controller to get their money that was withheld and a judge sadly sided with the legislators to state that the legislators not the State Controller are the arbiters if a budget is balanced because Chiang overstepped his powers.

So we have a budget that gave us ten billion dollars in the red and now it is sixteen billion. Problem is we have a government dominated by the public employee unions where heads would literally be scalped if they went against the wishes of the labor unions. Voters got bamboozled thanks to a judge who gave what the Democratic Party wanted, no checks and balances to make sure legislators passed a balanced budget. Then the Democrats added Trojan horses where they could add tax increases and other revenue enhancers without the voters being able to use the referendum to overrule them such as bills that tie into the budgets.

I know the Democrats want to raise taxes to pay for the public services we value, but how much taxes is enough to feed the emaciated sow of the SEIU, CTA and CCPOA? We threaten voters by stating that the shelter animals will be culled if we don’t pay the taxes, we threaten voters by stating that state parks will be padlocked, but it might have to take some tough leadership to make things right.

I have not been comfortable voting for Republicans because I am afraid that they will want to enforce their social issues instead of focusing on the pocketbook issues such as Senator Huff’s attempts to undo LGBT youth civil rights legislation. However it might take one or two elections where we will send the legislators such as Norma Torres who represents my district out of Sacramento and if candidates such as Kenny Coble end up focusing on theocracy instead of economy I will be happy to throw him out of office.

Maybe it might take the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers association to make a proposition that repeals Prop 25 because we absolutely got scammed and since we did not prepare a proper budget, the Democrats helped to cause this misery that we will end up enduring. My idea for a compromise is a 60% vote for budgets and tax increases and a rule that we stop using baseline budgeting and make zero-based budgeting the rule of law in Sacramento. I would also add a clause that pays the legislators minimum wage instead of no pay. Lastly I would remove the Trojan horse provisions that prevents voters from overturning egregious provisions with referendum passed by the legislature as well.

California is in a deep bind, but Californians do not trust the Republican Party. Even if they have the solutions people do not like them. With the passage of Proposition 25, the Republican Party needs to reinvent themselves to get elected in a Proposition 14 world that changed our election system since last year where the top 2 finishers of any party face each other in November. If we want to bring sanity to Sacramento, I have frequently argued that we need to stop with the big wedge and focus on economics. Even when Republicans say we need to focus on jobs and the unemployment they still have the naivety to go after the LGBT community such as recently removing non-heterosexual women from the Violence against Women Act in House of Representatives.

Governor Brown may say the temporary tax may be the salvation, but the problem is no one is hiring, no one is spending. If we make California open to business it’s the best way that we can get opportunity and the public services we value. We do not have a hole, we have a structural problem. If we have an improved foundation we will return to our status as a golden state.

Fellow Paul supporters are pondering voting for Rand Paul in 2016 after his father runs his final campaign for president, but Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky is showing that he has some slight different views on the issues of the day in particular how President Obama said he was open to marriage equality. Ron may of supported the Texas state marriage ban and does not care that New York has marriage equality, but Rand would be more likely to have an olive branch with the Santorum and the Romney camp in restricting marriage nationwide. Even though Rand decided to express his views on the issue it is not going to affect my vote for June 5th for his father. I will be more than please to take my vote elsewhere for 2016 if he believes in a marriage amendment to nullify federalism in New York and Massachusetts as an example. However Rand’s co-sponsorship of the Human Life Amendment is a good sign he would likely consider a permanent ban on marriage equality nationwide.

I know Rand wanted to do some outreach for his father, but it might of hurt in the long run. Statements like this should have been done after the election season when he enters the spotlight entirely on his own.

So basically we might see a swap of supporters for election 2016. We might see the liberal end of the Ron Paul collation moving to Gary Johnson in the next presidential election if Rand runs next. Liberty is not liberty if liberty is selective. Rand may be Libertarian on issues such as the NDAA or economic policy, but on personal liberty he could likely be drinking buddies with former senator Santorum.

Recently the Republican Party was given a poll from one of President George W Bush’s former pollsters that shows that America and even Republicans are gradually accumulating to equality for LGBT Americans mainly due to knowing a friend or family member who may be LGBT and they are starting to realize they have to treed carefully in how they deal with the issue. Rand is indeed entitled to his beliefs, but the context of what you say matters.

There is a small problem with what Republican national party chairman Priebus stated in a Los Angeles Times article about Rand’s remarks. “People in this country, no matter straight or gay, deserve dignity and respect. However, that doesn’t mean it carries on to marriage,” But if people are not going to be considered as equal Americans then it is not going to make any difference when Priebus tried to smooth over these remarks in an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press. Even if we try to provide dignity and respect to non-heterosexual relationships, politicians including Romney are unwilling to give the same 1,138 rights and responsibilities of marriage to same sex couples and only willing to give a pale fraction of them.

Rand may have some Libertarian sensibilities, but he is more in the Tea Party camp. Personally I think he would be better as a Senate Majority Leader than President. Any Republican would rather see him than Mitch McConnell run the Republican caucus in the senate.

It seems politicians do not like term limits, many politicians think the idea of citizen legislator is a strange idea because they get accustomed to the perks of their position and get withdrawn from the concerns of the common people that elected them there.

Although there are flaws in the term limits system, Proposition 28 is not the solution.

Our “not as impartial” Attorney General Kamala Harris failed to tell the voters that this ballot measure does not reduce the terms for existing legislators. Existing legislators will be allowed extra time to serve.

Proposition 28 is a scam like Proposition 25. Proposition 28 is going to expand terms for 80% of current legislators. So Norma Torres will end up having 3 more Assembly terms and Gloria Negrette Mcleod would be allowed to have 1 more term in the State Senate if she wanted to. Proposition 28 may sound good, but it will have unintended consequences.

The goal is to encourage more citizen legislators while allowing institutional experience. The goal should be is to have rules that would force politicians to go back to the private industry or a non political job for a given term and come back to teach new legislators as well.

Serve three terms in the State Assembly or two terms in the state senate, be forced to take a 7 year ban from being in any elected office in the state. After you take your seven year hiatus you can come back to Sacramento.

It seems Proposition 28 is just another effort by major political players such as Bob Huff’s best friend Ed Roski to buy influence of legislators that would easily support his plans in developing a sports stadium in the city of Industry right near Diamond Bar. Grease Roski’s palms with getting his special exemptions and he will allow you to continue the perks of being a state legislator by subsidizing their lifestyle such as getting wined and dined by AT&T and spending time on the golf links with them.

My endorsement is to vote NO on 28.

As part of our election education series for the California June 5th election I am going to help filter thru the arguments from both sides on this new tax measure.

First, Proposition 29 is going to increase cigarette taxes from 87 cents to 1.87 a pack. The additional tax revenue will be used to fund cancer research, smoking reduction programs, and tobacco law enforcement.

This tax revenue will be used to establish a commission to help in cancer treatment programs and other tobacco related disorders. The commission will be a nine member body to help manage the funds from the organization.

The proponents of Proposition 29 have been out funded by the opponents of this tax increase namely the tobacco industry which has spent almost 40 million compared to the supporters 6 million dollars. Opponents are mailing flyers to explain that we do not need to be spending or taxing our way to salvation. Philip Morris and RJ Reynolds may express that this new commission is redundant since we have the National Institutes of Health, but other states even Texas has taxed themselves to fund scientific studies in 2006.

Out of the flyer 1 of the 3 arguments from the opponents does have pull. Proposition 29 can not be changed for 15 years and can not be modified by the Governor, State Legislature or the State Auditor can change the initiative to correct problems of waste, fraud or abuse in section 6. I think if Proposition 29 dies, they should go back to the drawing board and state that a 3/5ths vote in the state legislature would be required to modify the ballot measure where the changes would be temporary until voters approve any changes in the next even election year.

Allowing tax dollars to be spent out of California is one politically sensitive charge that has pull with the voters in a crippling budget crisis we have this year with 16 billion dollars in debt. Even though the commission is mostly dominated by California interests where we will have scholars from our UC system leading the charge in these studies, the opponents of Proposition 29 are obfuscating the issue because they are trying to protect their revenue stream and not your health. UC scholars and cancer institutions such as City of Hope have provided many innovations in the study of cancer through the years and these funds will help our state save lives and create jobs.

Personally, I like the idea of Proposition 29. However when the sin taxes make smoking cigarettes unpopular to where the First 5 commission and the Cancer commission has no funds due to no one smoking, then our legislators and political consultants will say lets sin tax the fast food, the sugary drinks and the bakery delights to make sure we have no more obese people. We need to factor in simple economic principles before we implement any new taxes or perhaps have the tax increase 50 cents instead of a dollar.

Also even though Proposition 29 is a tax increase, it will end up saving money in the long run. I thought Republicans want us to spend less money and keep government small. If less people consume tobacco products, we will have less spending in our social welfare system with Medi-Cal and our county hospitals due to all the complications from consuming their products such as the taxpayers paying for oxygen tanks and surgeries from clogged arteries.

I was captivated by the marketing skill of the tobacco industry, but if you want to be an informed voter read both arguments before heading to the polls. Even though Californians were burned by the Stem Cell commission where in fact I opposed it because I believed it was likely to be ineffectively ran, this tax increase will provide a more effective public good for the people of California.

If tobacco companies want to protect their profits in the future, they need to transition out of the tobacco industry and find other products that would provide a beneficial good for their consumers and does not give them a nasty bill of goods at the wrong time.
