Norma Torres reflects on Governor Brown’s Budget Proposal

In an effort to share all sides of an issue, I forward our assemblywoman’s press release.

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Norma Torres (D-Pomona), responding to Governor Brown’s budget proposal, says she’s pleased with some parts of the Governor’s budget proposal, specifically his decision not to propose cuts to K-12 education and public safety. In this Assembly Access video Assemblymember Torres also says she’s glad the Governor did not include accounting gimmicks in his budget proposal to deal with the state’s budget deficit.

  1. The mainstream media is giving a lot of negative press to Brown’s cuts. I don’t recall such a negative tone when Arnold S. enacted the same cuts.

  3. I am not against most of Brown’s cuts. But we need to think outside the box. Such as providing an incentive for students to graduate on time by freezing their tuition costs, which reduces state spending. As long as your classes are open you are expected to enroll in them and graduate within 4 years for a BA, or 2 years for a transfer student. And I would have an allowance for 1 extra semester for a transfer student or 1 year for a full term student in case if you can not get the classes due to cutbacks.
