My letter I submitted to the Los Angeles Times

Re: Internet sales tax scofflaws cheat state Dec 24

Since the letter was not published in their newspaper, I have decided to post it here for public viewing.

Amazon should have a choice to maintain their “tax-free” shopping status in California. Californians like it or not are making a protest to the state of California that sales taxes are high and consumers are asking for relief in shopping. If sales taxes or use taxes were lower, then we would see less evasion of the state sales tax.

Maybe the Los Angeles Times would do better and be more profitable if they listened to the pulse of its readership instead of trying to feed the emaciated pig of government. Even if the State of California mandated all online retailers to collect the state sales tax on all Californians, California’s budget crisis would still not magically end overnight.
