I am no big supporter of the Issa initiative that allows for congressional districts to allocate electoral votes in California. It may be simple in Maine and Nebraska where there are only two to four congressional districts, but in California we have over fifty-three.

Yes, the votes from Moreno Valley and  Fresno get overlooked compared to the votes from Los Angeles and San Fransisco, but tinkering with the electoral college in California may have more horrendous consequences. I am afraid that the Democratic Party will want to do a Phil Burton like remap in 2011 after the 2010 census to make California’s Republican Party delegation more irrelevant.

Also, for those who care about electoral reforms such as Instant Runoff voting, Secretary of State Debra Bowen strikes again. Election integrity was a big issue with the Democratic Party base, but the Secretary of State prefers to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Phasing out machines that the secretary believes that violates standards would be more prudent, because counties and cities have spent millions of dollars to upgrade their voting technologies.

If cities want to do IRV based elections, the secretary should of consulted with political scientists and organizations such as CFER and Fair Vote, instead of making cities and counties struggle to carry out their obligations.

And yes, I was one of the few people who openly criticized the Secretary of State in the Los Angeles Times this summer.

Hillary Clinton during the latest Democratic Party debate helps decode what state senator Gil Cedilo (D-Los Angeles) wanted to do for the last six years.  Drivers licenses for illegal immigrants is the Democratic party goal to letting them break the law and vote in elections by diluting  the value of citizenship. If we want to give drivers licenses for illegals, we need to overturn the motor voter bill. Because all we are doing is giving the Democratic party license to breed new illegal immigrant voters.
Since passing laws in congress for amnesty for illegals is politically unpopular, state legislators and our congress members are trying to pass amnesty gradually under the table. Services such as health insurance and college education should not be given at citizen prices. We should not provide more incentives for illegals to jump the border.
